The instructions below show the difference between both loops, back loops and front loops.
Right Handed
For Left Handed instructions click here
Both Loops
When you look at your crochet stitches you can see that the two loops together make a ‘V’ shape, normally when you work a stitch you will work into both loops so that the hook sits underneath both loops of the ‘v’ shape, as shown in the pictures below.
Front Loops
Front loop only crochet is abbreviated as FLO. To work FLO crochet, you will insert your hook through only the loop of the ‘v’ that is closest to you. You will insert the hook from the front of the work but you will only pick up one loop, as shown in the pictures below.
Back Loops
Back loop only crochet is abbreviated as BLO. To work BLO crochet, you will insert your hook through only the loop of the ‘v’ that is furthest away from you. You will insert the hook from the front of the work to the centre of the stitch and pick up one loop, as shown in the pictures below.
