In project 10 you will get the opportunity to practice reading patterns, holding the hook and yarn, creating a slipknot, doing a yarn over, chain stitch, double crochet, half treble crochet, treble crochet, and a slip stitch, work in rounds, work in a chain space, change colour, increase, finish/fasten off and weave ends.

Round 2: Change colour slst into the next ch1 sp from round 1, ch3 then 2tr, ch1, *into the next ch-sp 3tr, ch1* rep from * to * 6 more times, join with slst into the top of the ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.  (24 tr sts)

Round 3: Rejoin same colour slst into the next ch1 sp from round 2, then ch1, *dc, 5tr, dc* rep from * to * 7 more times, join with slst into the top of the ch3 from the beginning of the round. FO.  (56 sts or 8 petals)

Round 4: Change colour slst into any beginning dc from a petal in round 3, ch6 (counts as 1htr and ch4), *working into the first dc of the next petal (tr, ch5, tr) into the same st to create corner, ch4, into the first dc of the next petal htr, ch4* rep from * to * 2 more times, into the first dc of the next petal (tr, ch5, tr) into the same st to create corner, ch4, join with slst into the top of ch2 from the beginning of the round.  FO.  (12 sts & 12 ch sps)

Round 5: Change colour slst into any ch5 corner sp from round 4, ch3 then 2tr, ch3, 3tr into the same sp, *into the next two ch4 sp, 5tr, into the next ch5 corner sp (3tr, ch3, 3tr)* rep from * to * 2 more times, into the next two ch4 sp, 5tr, join with slst into the top of the ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.  (16 sts per side)

Round 6: Change colour slst into 1st dc of round 5, then ch1, working into each stitch around *dc3, (dc, ch2, dc) into the corner space, dc13* rep from * to * 3 more times, join with slst into the top of the 1st dc of the round.  (18 sts per side)

Round 7: Working into 1st stitch of the previous round ch3, then into each stitch around tr, sk the last stitch of the row, *(3tr, ch2, 3tr) into corner sp, sk the first stitch of the row, continue with a tr into each stitch, sk the last stitch of the row*, rep from * to * 2 more times, (3tr, ch2, 3tr) into corner sp, sk the first stitch of the row, continue with a tr into each stitch, join with slst into the top of the ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.  (22 sts per side)

Round 8: Repeat round 7.   (26 sts per side)

Row 3-13: Rep row 2 for 11 rows.  (28 sts)

Row 14: ch1, *in each of the next sts 3dc, 2htr, 4tr, 2htr, 3dc* then rep from * to * to the end of row.  FO (28 sts)

The chart below is a simplified version of the pattern showing the first and final rows and how the middle rows repeat.

Round 1: Into the ring ch2, then 8htr, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.

Bauble 3

Instructions: Using your chosen yarn Ch5, join to the first ch with slst to form ring. 

Round 1: Into the ring 6dc, join with slst into the top of dc from the beginning of the round.  FO.

Tree stump

Instructions: Using your chosen yarn make ch11

Row 1: Work dc in 2nd ch from the hook, dc in each ch to the end of row. Turn.  

Row 2: Ch1, dc into each st to the end of the row. Turn.

Row 3 to 8 approx: Rep row 2 until desired size.

Assembly: Make up each square.  Pin together in your desired layout. Stitch together.  Stitch on tree stump & embellish with circles for baubles and a star for the top.

Start by working in a row

Round 2: Continue by working in a round.  Change colour, join into the space between the last two trebles of row1.  Ch3, 2tr into the same space, ch2, into the same space 3tr, then *sk 3 trebles, then into the space between the trebles, 3tr*, (e.g. between the 4th and 5th Trebles), rep from * to * to the end of the row.  The last 3 trebles there is 1 treble left at the end of the row, *2 ch2 then 3tr into the same space*2 rep *2 to *2 again to form the corner, then rep * to * to the end of the row, the last 3 trebles form the last corner ch2 then slst to join to the ch3 at the beginning of the round.

Round 3: Change colour, join into the ch2 space from round2, Ch3, 2tr into the same space, into the next ch2 space 3tr, ch2, 3tr, then *sk 3 trebles, then into the space between the groups of 3trebles, 3tr*, rep from * to * to the end of the row.  *2Then into the ch2 space 3tr, ch2, 3tr *2 rep *2 to *2 again to form the corner, then rep * to * to the end of the row, the last 3 trebles should be into the ch2 space from round 2, then ch2 and slst to join to the ch3 at the beginning of the round.  FO.



Assembly: Make up enough ribbons to make your desired length, first stitch the opposite ends of one ribbon together to form a hoop, then pass the next ribbon through the centre of the hoop and stitch together its opposite ends, and repeat for each ribbon.

Round 2: Change colour slst into any corner ch2 sp, ch3, then 2dc, ch2, 3dc, into the same space to create the corner, then *3dc in each of the next sps, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) to create the corner* rep from * to * 3 times, 3dc in each of the next sps, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.  (6 sts per side)

Round 3-7: Repeat round 2.  

                        Round 3 = 9 sts per side

Round 4 = 12 sts per side 

Round 5 = 15 sts per side 

Round 6 = 18 sts per side 

Round 7 = 21 sts per side

Round 8+: Repeat round 2 to make a bigger square.

Star

Instructions: Using yellow yarn Ch5, join to the first ch with slst to form ring. 

Round 1: Into the ring ch3, then 14dc, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.

Round 2: *sc and dc into the same st, then ch2, slst into the first ch, dc and sc into the next stitch, slst into the next stitch* rep from * to * to create 4 more points.  FO.

Bauble 1

Instructions: Using your chosen yarn Ch5, join to the first ch with slst to form ring. 

Round 1: Into the ring ch3, then 11dc, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.

Bauble 2

Instructions: Using your chosen yarn Ch5, join to the first ch with slst to form ring. 

Round 1: Into the ring ch2, then 8hdc, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.

Bauble 3

Instructions: Using your chosen yarn Ch5, join to the first ch with slst to form ring. 

Round 1: Into the ring 6sc, join with slst into the top of sc from the beginning of the round.  FO.

Tree stump

Instructions: Using your chosen yarn make ch11

Row 1: Work sc in 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each ch to the end of row. Turn.  

Row 2: Ch1, sc into each st to the end of the row. Turn.

Row 3 to 8 approx: Rep row 2 until desired size.

Assembly: Make up each square.  Pin together in your desired layout. Stitch together.  Stitch on tree stump & embellish with circles for baubles and a star for the top.

TRADITIONAL GRANNY RIBBON PATTERN

Instructions: 

Using your chosen yarn make ch34 (includes ch3 turning chain)

Start by working in a row

Row 1: Work dc in 4th ch from the hook, dc in each ch to the end of row.  (31 sts)

Round 2: Continue by working in a round.  Change colour, join into the space between the last two doubles of row1.  Ch3, 2dc into the same space, ch2, into the same space 3dc, then *sk 3 dcebles, then into the space between the doubles, 3dc*, (e.g. between the 4th and 5th Trebles), rep from * to * to the end of the row.  The last 3 doubles there is 1 double left at the end of the row, *2 ch2 then 3dc into the same space*2 rep *2 to *2 again to form the corner, then rep * to * to the end of the row, the last 3 doubles form the last corner ch2 then slst to join to the ch3 at the beginning of the round.

Round 3: Change colour, join into the ch2 space from round2, Ch3, 2dc into the same space, into the next ch2 space 3dc, ch2, 3dc, then *sk 3 doubles, then into the space between the groups of 3doubles, 3dc*, rep from * to * to the end of the row.  *2Then into the ch2 space 3dc, ch2, 3dc *2 rep *2 to *2 again to form the corner, then rep * to * to the end of the row, the last 3 doubles should be into the ch2 space from round 2, then ch2 and slst to join to the ch3 at the beginning of the round.  FO.

Assembly: Make up enough ribbons to make your desired length, first stitch the opposite ends of one ribbon together to form a hoop, then pass the next ribbon through the centre of the hoop and stitch together its opposite ends, and repeat for each ribbon.
