Project 5 - African Flower Motif 

In project 5 you will get the opportunity to practice reading patterns, holding the hook and yarn, creating a slipknot, doing a yarn over, chain stitch, double crochet, half treble crochet, treble crochet, double treble crochet and a slip stitch, work in rounds, work in a chain space, change colour, finish/fasten off and weave ends.

Instructions: 

Ch5, join to the first ch with slst to form ring. 

Note: ch3 at the beginning of each round counts as a tr.

Round 1: Into the ring ch3 then tr1, ch1, *tr2, ch1* rep from * to * 7 times, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.  (16 tr sts)

Round 2: Change colour slst into the next ch1 sp from round 1, ch3 then 2tr, ch1, *into the next ch-sp 3tr, ch1* rep from * to * 7 times, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.  (24 tr sts)

Round 3: Change colour slst into the next ch1 sp from round 2, ch3, tr ch2, 2tr, *into the next ch-sp 2tr, ch2, 2tr* rep from * to * 7 times, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.  (32 tr sts)

Round 4: Working into the next ch2 sp from round 3, ch3, 7tr, *into the next ch-sp 7tr* rep from * to * 7 times, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.  (56 tr sts or 8 petals)

Round 5: Change colour slst into the 1st tr of petals, *dc7, insert the hook into the space between the petals in round 2 and make a long dc stitch down between *rep from * to * 7 times, join with slst into the top of the 1st dc of the round.  FO.  (64 sts)

Round 6: Change colour slst into 1st dc of round 5 and working into each stitch around *dc4, htr, tr2, (dtr ch3, dtr into the same st to create corner) continue into each stitch tr2, htr, dc4, htr* rep from * to * 4 times, join with slst into the top of the 1st dc of the round.  (17 sts per side)

Round 7: Working into 1st stitch of the previous round and into each stitch around tr to corner chain space *(2tr, ch2, 2tr into corner sp) continue with a tr into each stitch to next corner chain space*, rep from * to * 3 times, (2tr, ch2, 2tr into corner sp) continue into each stitch tr to end, join with slst into the top of the 1st tr of the round.  FO.  (21 sts per side)

Round 8+: Repeat round 7.   (25 sts per side) 

Round 9+: Repeat round 7 to make a bigger square.

Round 4: Working into the next ch2 sp from round 3, ch3, 7dc, *into the next ch-sp 7dc* rep from * to * 7 times, join with slst into the top of ch3 from the beginning of the round.  FO.  (56 dc sts or 8 petals)

Round 5: Change colour slst into the 1st dc of petals, *sc7, insert the hook into the space between the petals in round 2 and make a long sc stitch down between *rep from * to * 7 times, join with slst into the top of the 1st sc of the round.  FO.  (64 sts)

Round 6: Change colour slst into 1st sc of round 5 and working into each stitch around *sc4, hdc, dc2, (tr ch3, tr into the same st to create corner) continue into each stitch dc2, hdc, sc4, hdc* rep from * to * 4 times, join with slst into the top of the 1st sc of the round.  (17 sts per side)

Round 7: Working into 1st stitch of the previous round and into each stitch around dc to corner chain space *(2dc, ch2, 2dc into corner sp) continue with a dc into each stitch to next corner chain space*, rep from * to * 3 times, (2dc, ch2, 2dc into corner sp) continue into each stitch dc to end, join with slst into the top of the 1st dc of the round.  FO.  (21 sts per side)

Round 8+: Repeat round 7.   (25 sts per side) 

Round 9+: Repeat round 7 to make a bigger square.
