I come from a family of crafters my Mother and Grandmother are seamstresses and dressmakers, and my Grandfather was a sign writer, so I began crafting when I was very young.
My mum taught me all the handicrafts—Sewing, knitting, cross stitch—she taught me the basic crocheting techniques and over the years we’ve been to workshops together, making cards, scrapbooking and much more, I have been making gifts for my family and friends ever since.
Since I started crocheting as a teenager I found an interest in amigurumi and appliqués, I’d be inspired to make a gift tailored to a particular idea, but could never find a pattern that suited my needs, so I started designing patterns for myself, once I started to design my own stuff, I was hooked, I couldn’t stop, I fell in love with it.
The first person I taught to crochet was a friend who wanted to make a baby shawl for their first grandchild, a little while later I became involved in a charity event and taught people to crochet to raise money for age UK, I found the more people I taught the more people became interested and wanted to get involved, then a couple of years later I taught my friend who is left handed.
This is where I found I had a passion to share with others, so I started to put together video tutorials, and writing up my own patterns, and my website Jo’s Crochet Pad was born. I have a lot of fun doing what I do and I enjoy interacting with fellow crafters, I hope to continue doing so for a very long time!
